Small Village…Large FootPrint
Umunoha USA Association, Inc. was founded in 2006 by forward-thinking individuals who understood that Umunoha, a small village in Imo State, Nigeria needed to be developed if it was going to be sustained for future generations. Although this village is small, it has had a large footprint world-wide, producing doctors, teachers, lawyers, engineers, accountants, IT consultants and entrepreneurs who have made significant strides in their perspectives fields in Nigeria and the USA.
The question that the UUAI founders pondered 8 years ago was
“How do we sustain our village for future generations?”
After reviewing the present needs of Umunoha and what they envisioned for the community in the future, the answer to that one question came in the form of multiple community initiatives:
Healthcare – provides health-care related solutions based on present needs.
Security – sponsors vigilante groups with motorcycles to monitor village for crime prevention.
Electricity – presently working on a system where the entire community will be supported by back-up electricity.
Water Access – planning to create a pipe line service, where entire community will have easy access to clean-water.
Efficient and Effective Operations
UUAI conducts periodic virtual meetings throughout the year to discuss and make decisions on current initiatives. Every two years, they have a convention, which features a face-to-face meeting with all members to address matters of the organization, elect officers and host a fundraising dinner dance.
